Aménager, sensibiliser, accompagner le changement dans les institutions : exemple d'une démarche et d'une méthode pour améliorer l'accompagnement des personnes atteintes de maladie d'Alzheimer, la satisfaction et l'implication des familles et du personnel

RÉSUMÉ:
Bien que la notion d'environnement soit d'actualité dans l'accompagnement de la maladie d'Alzheimer et des troubles apparentés, les nombreux articles qui traitent de cette question font rarement le lien entre l'environnement architectural et l'environnement social. Sur le terrain, on constate que si la formation peut contribuer à améliorer l'environnement social, elle aborde rarement la question de l'environnement spatial et reste encore trop souvent le domaine d'expertise des architectes et des techniciens.
De nombreuses recherches ont pourtant montré l'importance de la dimension résidentielle de l'espace et la nécessité de sensibiliser les professionnels de l'accompagnement à un usage domestique des lieux où vivent les personnes dont ils s'occupent, notamment
quand celles-ci souffrent de troubles cognitifs. Ces considérations théoriques nous ont amenés à construire une méthodologie articulant étroitement le travail sur l'environnement physique, la sensibilisation du personnel et l'accompagnement de l'institution dans sa démarche de changement dans le cadre d'une unité spécifique.
Nous proposons de rendre compte, à travers des exemples concrets, des interrelations entre ces trois aspects. Nous chercherons ensuite à modéliser ces interrelations dans un cadre de travail transdisciplinaire tenant compte des différents éléments de l'accompagnement en gérontologie dans une approche intégrative.
SUMMARY:
Although the notion of environment is now taken into account in helping patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease as well as the related problems, many articles dealing with this issue rarely make the connection between the architectural and social environments. On the ground, we see that although training can help to improve the social environment, it rarely deals with the question of the spatial environment and all too often neglects the areas of expertise of architects and technicians.
A great deal of research has however shown the importance of the residential dimension of the space and the need to raise the awareness of the professional healthcare staff with regard to the domestic usage of the living areas for the people whom they look after, in particular when they are suffering from cognitive problems.
These theoretical considerations led us to come up with a methodology closely related to work on the physical environment, raising staff awareness and providing help for the institution to bring about change within a specific unit.
We offer to take into account, through concrete examples, how these three aspects are interrelated. We then seek to create a model for these interrelations in a cross-disciplinary paper that looks at the various aspects of providing help in gerontology departments,
taking an integrative approach.
